What is MAP testing?
Measures of Academic Progress--This is a computerized, adaptive test created for students by NWEA, Northwest Evaluation Association. The test are aligned with Common Core State Standards and provide teachers and students with valuable data to promote student growth.

What tests do students take?
At Royal Spring Middle School all students will take the test for math, reading, and language usage. Language usage is an optional test this year for our district; however, RSMS wants to have every piece of data available to make the best decision for all of our students.

How often do student take MAP tests?
The tests are administered in three cycles throughout the district. The first cycle is in August/September, the second cycle is in December/January, and the final cycle is in April/May. The purpose for having three cycles is to be able to see growth over time for students.

Do all students in the same grade take the same test?
No. Since the MAP test is a computer adaptive test, it will adjust the difficulty of the level of each of the questions for the student taking it. For this reason, each student actually has a unique testing experience to provide the best data for teachers and students.

How are scores reported?
Scores are reported to students, teachers, and parents on the RIT scale. RIT stands for Rasch Unit and is a number created on a curriculum scale. The scale is in intervals similar to the use of feet inches. RIT is used to be able to show growth of students over time. Using students' RIT scores teachers are able to pinpoint content students have already learned and what they are ready to learn.
